So, the schedule is almost complete. At this time we will be meeting with VMWare, NetApp, Apple, Contastic, Boxfish, TunIn, Criteo, Google, Facebook, and Target. I am still waiting to confirm Oracle, Shutterfly, Yahoo, LinkedIn, McAfee, Prezi, Venture Capitol, Luxe, Superfish, Brit & Co, Flurry, Glow, Pivatol, Affirm, GoogleCapital, Uber, Zynga, Trulia, Jawbone, Groupon. Paypal, Khan Academy and WakaTime.
The students are reading A History of Silicon Valley: The Greatest Creation of Wealth in the History of the Planet, 2nd Edition by Rao, Arun. I chose this comprehensive text for the class because it includes a little bit of everything you need to know about SV, past, present and future. They will use this text, along with subscriptions to a Silicon Valley Newsletter and San Jose Murcury News, to participating in online discussions.
Along with creating their own blogs, the students have prepared their updated resumes and business cards to have on hand during or visits. These networking tools will come in handy as any of these companies will have internships, or even jobs, available for the Curry students. Finally, the students will also be choosing a book to read from a select list. These books all focus on one or many topics related to life and business in SV. They will use these books in the writing of their final paper as they report on their experience over the course of the week.
